According to the General Headquarters of the police, though it was a fierce fight, no one sustained injuries but it created chaos in the mall’s ‘electronic games’ zone.
The police did not identify the mall and those involved in the fight. The fight happened on July 23 night.
“The Operations Room at the Metropolitan Police Station (in Khalidiya) received a call around 11.30pm on Saturday from a shopping mall that there was a fight between two youth groups in their game zone. We immediately sent a police team to control the situation and apprehend those involved in the fight,” said Brigadier Maktoum Al Sharifi, Director of the Metropolitan Police.
The officer said the two groups of youth of different nationalities were playing a game in the mall’s play zone when the fight started after some arguments between rival players. “First it started with mild arguments, then screaming and shouting and fisticuffs ensued. The management of the game zone immediately called the police station. A police team was sent without losing any time and the boys were arrested and the situation was brought under control,” he said.
When the police team arrived on the scene, the mall security personnel were struggling to control the situation.
The arrested youths were referred to the prosecution for legal action.
“Parents need to know about the behaviour of their children and must know who their friends are. They must educate them to maintain discipline and monitor their behaviour to help correct bad manners and habits that lead to delinquency problems. Home is the first and basic institution for children to learn good discipline. Parents should also keep an eye on their children’s outings; they must make sure the children are not out late at night,” he added.
Al Sharifi, holding the parents responsible for such incidents, said these kinds of crimes happen among children whose parents have no control over them. — nissar@khaleejtimes.com
