Several of the new street names are a tribute to iconic Emirati leaders, such as Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, while others hold geographical significance.

Street number six, popularly known as Al Najda Street, will now be renamed Fatima bint Mubarak Street. This street runs from the Corniche Road to Hazza bin Zayed Street on the eastern side of Abu Dhabi Island. The renaming of the street honours the “Mother of the UAE” for the important contributions she has made to the society of the UAE, particularly in the area of women’s empowerment.

The other newly named streets are Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Street, Khalifa bin Zayed First Street, Sultan bin Zayed First Street, Shakhbout bin Sultan Street, Mubarak bin Mohammed Street, Salama bint Butti Street, Al Bateen Street, Al Dhafra Street, Dhafeer Street, Dihan Street, Mawgab Street and Rabdan Street.

The names assigned to these 14 major streets reiterate the UAE’s desire to commemorate our prominent leaders for their vision, leadership and contribution in building the UAE society. The geographic names have also been carefully selected to reflect the history of the land and preserve the Capital’s culture and identity.
