1,614 arrested for violating visa rules

DUBAI - A total of 1,614 people were arrested for violating visa rules during the last four months, according to the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD). They included 630 people who had entered the country illegally.

Punishments to violators would include jail terms of no less than 2 months and a fine of up to Dh 100,000 to be paid by the owner of the establishment.

A fine of Dh 50,000 will be paid by whoever hires someone not on his sponsorship, said Colonel Bader Salem, Director of Investigation control Department at DNRD.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Obaid Moheir bin Suroor, Acting Director of DNRD, said that the administration had implemented a unique inspection mechanism and appointed a dedicated team to nab the violators of residency law by regularly monitoring the activities of all establishments and conducting unscheduled visits and inspection tours.

In this regard, DNRD is also coordinating with the Labour Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labour, the Department of Economic Development and the DTCM in order to identify fake or inactive companies or those in breach of the regulations.
