226 outstanding children honoured

DUBAI — The Memon community in the UAE held its 6th consecutive annual event at Pakistan Sports and Recreation Centre on Thursday to felicitate 226 children who achieved laurels in the annual examination held for the academic year 2004.

Chief guest Amanullah Larik, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai, distributed prizes and certificates of merit among 137 girls and 89 boys, while over 750 attendees applauded the children.

Umair Mohammed Sulaiman who completed Hifzul Quran after September 2003 was awarded a special prize. Special Talent Awards were presented to Bushra Mohammed Yaqoob Nepal (‘O’ Level), Shumaila Mohammed Arif (undergraduate) and Shehzad Fahad (postgraduate).

Of the 299 results received, 70 (42 girls and 28 boys) were rejected because the marks fell short of the criterion of the desirable 80 per cent aggregate, result/report was issued by an educational institution outside the UAE, KG and nursery class results were not considered eligible though 10 results were received, and the copy of result was received late.

General Secretary Abdul Ghaffar Fancy congratulated the children and their parents and said the main objective of the event was to motivate the children. He also thanked the donors and members of the organising committee for their effort.

It was also announced that Abdul Razzak Tabba, a leading philanthropist, had received Nishan-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan.

“It is a matter of pride for all Memons that services of Mr Tabba are acknowledged and appreciated by the Pakistan government,” he said.

He urged members to become Ordinary or Life Members of the World Memon Organisation and strengthen its position to achieve its objectives of uplift and advancement of the Memon community worldwide.

Haji Abdul Razzak Yaqoob (ARY), President of the organising committee presented a memento to Mr Larik while Abu Baker Cassim, Senior Vice President expressed vote of thanks on behalf of the organising committee.
