In a scuffle that broke out after an argument between a drunk man and a group of friends, a 24-year-old law student was shot dead in Delhi's Burari area.
The incident took place late in the night when a man carrying a double-barrel gun approached the youth, Ashish Bhardwaj, and his two friends who were sitting on a bench, and asked them to leave.
The trio were just talking after taking a stroll when suddenly a man on a motorbike came up to them and asked them to leave. Bhardwaj protested and the man got into an argument and threatened to shoot them.
A scuffle broke out between the group of friends and the man who soon pressed his gun against Bhardwaj's chest and pulled the trigger. The man was drunk and also threatened to shoot the youth's friends who were chasing him after the incident.
Bhardwaj's friends tried to take him to a hospital but no autorickshaw drivers were ready to take them. "We wasted almost 15 minutes trying to hail an autorickshaw and our friend died due to excessive bleeding," one Bhardwaj's friends was quoted saying in The Times of India report.
Bhardwaj, a native of Champaran district in Bihar, had come to Delhi to pursue law from a private university in Gurgaon. He used to stay at a relative's house in Gurgaon and had come to Delhi to meet his friends who stay in a paying guest accommodation near Jharoda.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narhwal stated that a murder case was registered and a hunt was launched to find the accused who is on a run. The youth's body will be handed over to his family after autopsy.
