As many as 30 students from GEMS New Millennium School Dubai and Bhavans Abu Dhabi witnessed the Indian Republic Day parade at Rajpath in New Delhi on Thursday.
After witnessing the historic parade, where His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was the chief guest, they had a meeting with a retired army officer.
On Friday, the group of students and teachers visited Sri Harmandir Sahib 'Golden Temple'. The five-day educational travel programme is organised by Explorars, a Dubai-based group that functions with a vision of 'Transforming Learning through Experiential Travel'.
According to Explorars founder Tarun Dara, the purpose of the trip is to strengthen the unity and patriotism of Indian students living in the UAE.
"The 68th Republic Day celebrations were special for all Indians living in the UAE with Sheikh Mohamed as the chief guest. We are honoured to have organised an event where students from the UAE could witness how the friendship and positive values can propel the two nations into greatness," Dara said.
The group of students from Grade 8 to 11, reached New Delhi on Wednesday and visited the tomb of the Mughal emperor Humayun, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Explorars business development regional manager Loluck Baby said: "This is to take a child out of their comfort zone. The students start the day with a thought of the day and end it by reflecting upon it." The group will return on Monday.
