The exercise involved 3,000 residents and is the second of three trials involving the public and focused on testing all the terminal’s systems, processes and services.

A large number of volunteers had taken part in the first trial run of Terminal 3 recently.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said transit passengers comprised a large number of passengers at the city’s airport, especially as the city continued to grow as a global aviation hub.

“A considerable percentage of our passenger traffic comprises transit passengers and their numbers are set to increase substantially over the coming years.” But despite the serious purpose of the trials, Dubai Airports organised street performers with magic tricks, juggling and mimes to entertain volunteers while they waited in holding areas acting out scenarios.

The ‘soft’ opening of the Emirates Airline-dedicated terminal will be implemented in four phases, ensuring that systems and processes are working to the highest standards of efficiency.

The third and final trial is scheduled to take place in late September.

More information on the trials is available online at www.efast.ae/trials.
