According to the statistics issued by the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality on Monday, violators were caught in 198 inspection campaigns carried out on around 925 commercial outlets by the Municipality’s Environmental and Health Department. Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Chairman of the RAK Municipality said that most of the violators were outlets dealing in food products, and these included restaurants, cafeterias, bakeries, grocery shops and supermarkets.
The violations included the sale of expired and rotten products, operating in poor hygiene conditions, lack of health cards by workers of some outlets and others.
Fines have been slapped for each violators in addition to issuing official warning letters not to repeat the breach.
Al Shamsi said that the municipality would continue with its inspections across the emirate throughout the year to ensure that all outlets comply with the municipal laws.
He noted that the municipality is keen on promoting food hygiene in various outlets.
