The anti-terrorism court (ATM) Karachi on Monday remanded five activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to Rangers' custody for 90 days.
The Rangers submitted that the accused are members of militant wing of the MQM and were involved in several cases of target killing, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other heinous crimes.
The accused include unit in charge Raheel Lodhi, ex-president of of MQM's student wing Naveed Siddiqui and other activists Zeeshan, Rehan and Shamshad. The last four were arrested from Karachi University last week.
Meanwhile, the MQM Rabita Committee has protested against arrest of its activists and accused Rangers of conducting raids to harass the party activists and pressurise its supporters to join the newly-formed group led by former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal.
It dared Kamal's party Pak Sarzamin Party (PSP) to constest the May 2 by-election for a vacant seat of Sindh Assembly. The committee rejected allegation against the party and its leader Altaf Hussain of having links with Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) which is involved in sabotage activities in Pakistan.
