A five-year-old boy died of suffocation in Al Ain after locking himself inside an old family vehicle.
Abu Dhabi Police said on Thursday afternoon that the incident occurred at the parent's home in Al Ain.
Initial police investigations suggested that the boy, who was playing alone, had entered the vehicle that was parked at the home compound from the rear door.
He then accidentally locked himself inside the vehicle.
Police said that after searching for the boy, the family later found him inside the vehicle in critical condition.
He was rushed to a nearby medical centre where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations suggested that the boy died of suffocation because of the scorching heat as he might have spent a long time inside the old vehicle.
Police have urged parents to always monitor their children at home and to ensure that they don't leave the kids back in parked cars especially when have traveled with them.
