67 killed, 165 hurt in fire accidents last year

ABU DHABI — A total of 2,075 fire accidents took place throughout the country last year killing at least 67 people and injuring 165 others, according to Major-General Mohammed Salim bin Kardous Al Amiri, Director-General of the Civil Defence.

Disclosing these alarming figures, Maj.-Gen. Amiri said yesterday that financial losses and damages caused by these accidents were estimated at Dh66.5 million.

Abu Dhabi topped the list with a record of 519 accidents, Sharjah was the second with 401, Dubai 343, Al Ain 289, Ras Al Khaimah 179, Ajman 152, Western Region 85, Umm Al Quwain 54 and Fujairah 53.
