Eighty-two-year-old Fatima Ali Ibrahim, an Emirati woman from Sharjah, was among the 46 Emirati philanthropists recognised at the UAE Pioneers Awards on Tuesday.
Ibrahim was honoured for being the UAE's senior-most volunteer.
She has been distributing iftar meals to workers in Sharjah's industrial area during Ramadan for many years. The elderly woman has engaged in this philanthropic activity with part of her earnings for decades and she was happy to be recognised.
"I am so happy being honored for my philanthropic work. It's so great receiving a Pioneers Award," she said. "It's a good thing that our leaders are encouraging people to help the poor, especially through such recognitions."
The elderly Emirati lady has been taking the iftar meals to the workers and distributing it herself. "I have been giving out iftar meals to the poor workers for many years since I was still energetic. and I am still doing it," said Ibrahim. "Sometimes, I had to endure the hot temperatures, but I always made sure to give out the meals in time so the workers didn't miss out on iftar."
