ABU DHABI — The mystery that had shrouded genetic evidence in about 88 cases have been solved at the Laboratories of Criminal Evidence of Abu Dhabi police. Using the DNA technique, the Police laboratories succeeded over seven months in establishing the kinship of 88 people to their kith and kin, and their identities were specified.

Major Jami Ahmed Al Musharakh, Deputy Director of the Criminal Evidence Department said that Abu Dhabi Police had equipped its criminal laboratories with state of the art technologies.

"This has enabled us to solve a great deal of criminal mysteries by using the DNA techniques, especially in cases related to kinship. Through fluids in the human body like saliva and blood or body tissues like the skin, hair and other elements, the DNA is established", he said

He said that most of the technical analysis were carried out within the Criminal Evidence Laboratories which boast of modern technologies and highly qualified personal with the ability to any types of crimes.

Using DNA and other advanced criminal laboratory technologies; Abu Dhabi Police have succeeded in solving the mystery of 1729 crimes committed during the first four months of this year, according to officials.

The case included 282 involving forgery and 386 related to drugs. The laboratory used latest technologies and state-of-the-art equipment, which helped the police obtain concrete evidence regarding these crimes in record time.

The tests included 438 blood test for consuming alcohol, 301 cases related to theft and road accidents. The laboratory also dealt with 386 drugs and poison related cases as well as a number of cases, which required biological testing such as murder and rape. DNA technology also helped in dealing with 120 cases to establish the kinship of people and 134 fire incidents for investigatory purposes.
