A ghazal contest with Jagjit for music lovers

DUBAI - In anticipation of Jagjit Singh's concert, and as the concert fever mounts, the organisers of the event are inviting all ghazal lovers, who also like to sing to give them an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of the legend himself at the 'Close to my heart' ghazal contest.

The aspirants have been invited to record a ghazal that has originally been sung by Jagjit Singh on a cassette or CD and drop it at Antique Bazaar, at the Four Point Sheraton, not later than October 19.

Five singers will be short-listed by City FM and will be invited to an exclusive private dinner with Jagjit Singh on October 21, at the Antique Bazaar restaurant.

The five finalists will be given an opportunity to sing in front of the artiste. Jagjit Singh will then select the best singers in preferential order, from the first to the fifth. The first prize is a one carat diamond, the second a pair of diamond earrings from Diwan Jewellery and the the third, fourth and fifth prizes are UMI pearl necklaces from Al Liyali Jewellery.

All entries should include a proof of purchase of tickets to the concert. Only one entry per person is permitted. Antique Bazaar and City FM are sponsoring the contest.

The main presenter of the event is New Medical Centre Hospital, in association with Al Rawabi. Khaleej Times is the official newspaper of the event, Grand Hyatt the official hotel, Car Fare the official rent-a-car. Other sponsors are Virgin Mega Stores and Quick Photo. The preferred card of the event is MasterCard. All MasterCardholders will be eligible to special privileges if they use their cards.
