The Central Operations Room of the Abu Dhabi Police has received as many as 1.2 million phone calls through emergency number 999 in the first half of the year.
Colonel Nasser Suliman Al Maskari, Director of Operations Department at the General Department for Central Operations, said the calls came from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia( Western region).
Operations room in Abu Dhabi received 801,349 calls while Al Ain operations room received 357,617 calls and Al Gharbia received 68,349 calls.
"The Abu Dhabi police have always been keen in reducing the time of response to the call through using the best and hi-tech equipment and devices," he said.
"The Central Operations Room identifies the place from where the call was made and keeps in touch with the caller before handling the situation as quickly as possible and take the necessary actions through deploying its equipped personnel, he added.
"A system has been provided and designated to communicate with the special needs people by answering all their inquiries through SMS number 5999," he said.
Colonel Al Maskari appealed to the parents to keep an eye on their children, and bar them from dialing 999, especially during summer holidays when the children dial the number in their leisure time.
"Unnecessary calls waste the time and effort of the police and delay them in answering the serious callers, he said. Col Al Maskari also advised parents to create a sense of awareness among their children on the importance of the emergency number.
