The Abu Dhabi City Municipality and its partners paid a visit to a "model farm" in Al Wathba area.
The group visiting Emirati, Abdullah Hassan Al Ali's farm included students from Al Noor School, and representatives from the Farmers Services Centre. The students were included to raise their awareness about the environment.
Mohammed Ali Al Mansouri, Director of the Wathba Municipality Centre, said: "Visiting farms of Emiratis comes as part of the awareness plans and educational programmes aimed at increasing environmental and health awareness among children and school students.
"It is also intended to promote their social responsibility towards maintaining public facilities such as parks and service utilities, in addition to safeguarding the civilised appearance of cities, roads and other infrastructure and service facilities."
During the visit, students were taught about the best methods adopted in sustainable farming, preserving the environment and water in the UAE and transplantation of vegetables.
"The students were told about the appropriate timing for transferring seedlings from the nursery to the farm and how to grow them. They were also taught about the modern irrigation methods, economisation of irrigation water and conservation of natural resources," said Al Mansouri. The students were taken to greenhouses to acquaint them with the cooling system adopted there and how plants are protected.
"They were also briefed on the automatic egg incubator and how chicks of various species are bred."
