Both short-term and long term plans will be implemented to ensure that every student in Abu Dhabi will receive quality education in a healthy and safe environment.

“As part of its 10-Year Strategic Plan, ADEC is committed to improving access to P-12 education and providing students with affordable options for high quality private education for all communities in Abu Dhabi,” said Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of ADEC.

“ We have an immediate plan to deal with the forecasted capacity shortage and are making preparations to create world-class academic environments for each student in Abu Dhabi for the long term,” he added.

To ensure that families in Abu Dhabi will not have to deal with a capacity shortage in private villa schools for the coming Indian school year, ADEC has created new school placements to meet the current demand.

ADEC has created hundreds of new places in one Abu Dhabi school by increasing three places per class which will accommodate an additional 400-500 students.

This builds on the offer of a disused government school to be used for a temporary period until the school operator builds a permanent facility that will meet standards.

ADEC has also instructed another school to hold fees at 2009 levels rather than increasing to reduce financial pressure on parents.

ADEC has agreed to extend the operation of an Indian curriculum school in Abu Dhabi for this coming school year, which will allow for another 150 places for KG children.

The school was due to move to Musaffah as part of ADEC’s phased villa closure plan, but will now be able to continue to operate in Abu Dhabi until the end of March 2011 to help ease the capacity demands of the coming Indian school year.

This week ADEC hosted a roundtable with UAE philanthropic businesses to discuss solutions for the capacity shortages.

The meeting led by Al-Khaili, Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC Executive Director of School Operations and Mr. Yousif Al Sheryani, Education Advisor to the DG at ADEC discussed ADEC’s strategic approach to education in Abu Dhabi.
