Abu Dhabi toll: Register your car or pay this fine

First announced in July, four toll gates have become operational in the Capital from October 15, but will remain free of charge until January 1, 2020.
Here the fines associated with using the Abu Dhabi toll gates:
Passing through a toll gate without registering the vehicle incurs a fine of Dh100 for the first day, Dh200 for the second day, and Dh400 for the third day and so on, up to a maximum of Dh10,000.

Passing through a toll gate without sufficient credit in the user's account for vehicles registered outside Abu Dhabi emirate will incur a fine of Dh50 per day.
Tampering with the licence plate of the vehicle for the purpose of evading payment of the toll fee incurs a fine of Dh10,000.
Tampering with any of the electronic payment devices or the toll gate system incurs a fine of Dh10,000.
Each vehicle registered in the toll gate system will be charged Dh100, of which Dh50 is credited to the user's account.
Vehicles licenced in Abu Dhabi won't be fined if they cross the new toll gates without having enough credit in their account, news agency WAM said in September, citing a senior official.
Ibrahim Sarhan Al Hamoudi, Acting Executive Director of the Surface Transport Sector at Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, said during a session organised by the department that any unpaid toll will be charged at the time of renewing the vehicle's registration. He reiterated that all of vehicles licenced in Abu Dhabi would be automatically registered in the new system.
The following month, in October, the Department of Transport announced that fines incurred at toll gates would be reduced by 25 per cent they are paid within 30 days.
According to the decision issued by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Department of Transport, motorists would pay only 75 per cent of the fine if the payment was made within 30 days.
