Abu Dhabi’s pedestrian tunnel works completed

The maintenance campaign of the municipality covered 19 tunnels and removed disfiguring elements such as graffiting besides washing, cleaning, rehabilitating, repairing and maintaining these essential facilities.

Works also included repairing lighting fixtures, ventilation means, and electromechanical equipment as well as cleaning and grouting of tiles using special water-tight materials, fixing cracked cement surfaces, replacing damaged tiles, and re-painting and maintaining metal barriers/rails. During the process, various aspects of security, safety, and public hygiene were addressed. The Municipality commended the cooperation and collaboration of community members to maintain the urbanised outlook of these metropolitan amenities and uphold the distinctive appearance and modern look of the capital in the public interest and as part of the ongoing efforts to raise the city’s standing among top metropolis worldwide.

It is noteworthy that the municipality constructed numerous pedestrian tunnels in the city’s main streets to ensure the safety of road users and the smooth flow of traffic particularly in areas witnessing heavy pedestrian crossing movement.
