The Ministry of Environment and Water's ongoing campaign at the Abu Dhabi International Airport to spread awareness about the illegal trade of ivory is drawing "strong participation" from travellers. The campaign, which was launched last week, will run until August 13.
The campaign is being organised in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Customs and International Fund for Animal Welfare.
The ministry is showcasing samples of ivory that were confiscated by security agencies in the UAE. The campaign spreads awareness about the threats facing elephants to sustain this illegal trade and also on the importance of preserving wildlife.
Aisha Al Abdooli, Director of Awareness and Education Department at the ministry, said the campaign is in line with the UAE's initiatives aimed at cultivating the community's commitment to protecting the environment.
The ministry, she said, is keen on launching awareness campaigns all year round to boost environmental awareness among tourists.
