FUJAIRAH - A court here has sentenced an 18-year-old UAE national to a fine of Dh500 for causing the death of a man in a road accident and to pay Dh200,000 as blood money to the victim's next of kin.
Tareq Ahmad Subeih's car had knocked down and killed on the spot 50-year-old Ali Saeed, a national, on Hamad bin Abdullah Road in the Mereshied area in Fujairah.
The prosecutor's office charged the defendant with reckless driving, causing the death of a man and accidentally causing damage to the vehicle.
The Shariah Court first ruled to reprimand the defendant and hand him over to his parents in addition to banning him from driving for six months.
The prosecution filed an appeal pressing manslaughter charge and seeking an order against him to pay blood money following which the court reopened the case.
