Accurate follow-up on schools needed

THE Ministry of Labour has efficiently succeeded in unveiling a number of violations in 17 private schools. They proved to have recruited some absconders, and others working without being permitted by the Ministry of Labour or the Ministry of Education. Yet, the Ministry of Education is mainly required to play this great role. It is the responsibility of the MoE Private and Qualitative Sector, headed by Juma Al Salami, Assistant Under-Secretary, to follow up and unveil such infringements.

Discovering 50 violators (illegal workers) in 5 of the 17 private schools is a huge figure. Sami Ismail, Head of the Labour Orientation Department of the Ministry of Labour, was quoted by the mass media as saying: “This violation — working without prior permission from the educational zone — does worry everybody. Those male and female teachers may not be qualified for teaching, and hence gravely endanger the academic achievement of students and even their health, as most of them are not medically examined yet.

In view of that, the Ministry of Education is to conduct a thorough inspection, investigation, and follow-up on private schools to stringently confront this critical issue in the public interest.
