ABU DHABI - As per instructions from the Ministry of Environment and Water, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has taken steps to withdraw containers of Masafi water which were not compliant with the specifications. The containers withdrawn were 500 ml bottles with a manufacturing date and expiry date of 17.2.2012 and 16.2.2013 respectively. The action on the water was due to its containing bromide beyond the permitted levels.

ADFCA was in touch with the company to follow up on the recall. Meanwhile, the company assured the defective water was withdrawn during the past two days.

However, Al Arabi Water Company, whose products also figured in the ministry’s notification, clarified they were not selling water in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Another company, Sana’, which supplies water in Al Ain, was instructed by the Authority to withdraw containers of non-compliant water with manufacturing and expiry dates of 25.2.2012 and 24.5.2012 respectively. The company was also asked to produce fresh laboratory reports confirming the safety and suitability of its water for human consumption.

Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, Director of Communication and Community Service at ADFCA, said the Authority was always on alert as far as the safety and well being of the consumers were concerned. “The safety of the consumers is our highest priority and no effort will be spared in ensuring that all food products sold or circulated within the emirate are safe and fit for consumption. We would like to clarify that water bottles with manufacturing and expiry dates other than the ones mentioned above are safe. We call upon the public to inform us if they chanced upon the defective water in any outlets at 888555,” he stressed.
