The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport of Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has issued offence tickets to 27 shops, as part of a campaign targeting perfume and tobacco and accessory shops in Baniyas, Al Shawamekh and Al Nadha areas.
The shops were penalised for violation of the law governing the cleanliness and health conditions of retail outlets.
The campaign is part of the efforts of the Abu Dhabi City Municipality to maintain public safety through an inspection and monitoring programme targeting service facilities and consumer items retail outlets. The municipality has urged community members to cooperate in combating negative practices in breach of the applicable laws.
Practising unlicensed activities and promoting fake, illegal consumer or therapeutic substances that fall short of the safety standards are harmful to the society, warned the municipality.
The Municipality is launching systematic campaigns to verify the implementation of rules and regulations governing the health of the community and protecting the public from any hazards threatening personal safety or public health at retail outlets of perfumes, tobacco and accessories and other materials harmful to the safety of the community.
The municipality stated that it would tackle any violations relating to the selling of items falling short of the applicable health and safety standards by confiscating or destroying them besides issuing offence tickets in accordance with the applicable law. The campaign revealed that some perfumes and tobacco shops intentionally add harmful materials.
Through similar campaigns launched last year, the municipality confiscated 403 packs of consumer items on offer for sale to consumers which were either harmful or expired.
