The opening of this jogging track comes in the context of the Municipality’s drive to promote communal health and encourage the capital’s residents & visitors of all ages to avail themselves of the facilities in place and maintain healthy habits in line with the Municipality’s endeavours to improve the quality of the social life in a healthy environment, and elevate the level of services offered in Abu Dhabi city to make it one of the best capitals worldwide.
The jogging track on Arabian Gulf St at Al Mushrif length extends 2400 meters from the ADNOC Petrol Station up to the Federal Passports Bridge. This track will soon be equipped with all service and health facilities, including muscles building equipment, benches, water coolers, vendor machines of soft drinks/beverages, litter baskets and other necessary services that encourage the practicing of jogging sport and maintaining the environment & public health. Another jogging track will soon be opened at Afrah Al Nahyan Yard extending 800 meters, at Mohammed bin Khalifa Street and Khalifa bin Shakhboot Street, comprising two tracks, one for jogging and the other for biking.
While inaugurating the jogging track Eng. Abdullah Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Infrastructure and Municipal Assets Sector, said: ‘This initiative comes in the context of the Municipality’s efforts to serve the needs of the community in practicing recreational and sports activities and accordingly contribute to raising the standard of living in the city, maintain health and physical fitness and create an attractive environment that encourages the practice of jogging and benefiting from the resources in place.’
‘Currently, there are other two tracks being constructed; one at Al Mushrif, in the surroundings of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed School for Boys, extending 1100 meters and is scheduled for opening next January, and the other is at Zafarana on Street 29 rounding the 6th of August School for Girls, extending 900 meters, which will be opened in the first quarter of 2011,’ added Al Shamsi.
