Tariq Ahmed Nizami, Overseas Director for SSCMS, said that expatriate students in the UAE faced problems with regard to selection of a suitable medical institute on a merit basis.

“The SSCMS is a centre of excellence for all multinational students and the college provides a degree that has been approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO),” he said.

He said that the admission process for Dubai-based students was simple because the pre-test requirements have been waived for international students. “The college has students from Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia as well as the USA,” he added.

Nizami also said that the college also has a tie-up with the Universal Empire Institute of Medical Sciences based in Knowledge Village, Dubai and Royal College of Applied Science and Technology in Ras Al Khaimah.

“These institutes will offer a pre-clinical training for two and half years, and later the students can do their training in SSCMS,” he explained.

He also said that students studying in any affiliate could proceed for studies in SSCMS and vice-versa. Nizami said that the 350-bed Sir Syed hospital was attached to the college.

“The college also offers diploma in nursing which is a three year course,” he said.

Admissions to the college are offered after international students meet the 60 per cent target minimum while the college also has affiliations with the Texas Technical Medical University, he said, adding that the college has allotted a 10 per cent quota for international students.

The SSUET is among the pioneers in introducing bio-medical engineering in Pakistan, he claimed.

Promoting the college in Dubai, EdAsia is a licensed education service provider, fully accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education, UAE.

“The main objective of EdAsia is to promote the UAE, UK and Malaysia as international education hubs on the global stage,” said Nishat Siddique, Manager, Business Relations for EdAsia. “EdAsia provides students in the UAE with comprehensive information, advice and assistance on the state-of-art educational facilities offered by top-ranking institutes in parts of the world,” she said.
