Under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative for the Western Region, Adieff will launch its first edition on April 20 in Abu Dhabi. This environment-themed film festival, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, will run till April 25.

African Cats, directed by Keith Scholey and Alastair Fothergill, is a production of Disneynature, a film label of The Walt Disney Company. This true life adventure captures the real-life love, humour, and determination of the majestic kings of the Savannah. It was filmed on the Maasai Mara National Reserve, a major game region in south-western Kenya.

Narrated by the Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson, the story features Mara, an endearing lion cub, who strives to grow up with her mother’s strength, spirit and wisdom; Sita, a fearless cheetah and single mother of five mischievous newborns; and Fang, a proud leader of the pride who must defend his family from a rival lion.

The film has been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.

Through donations tied to the opening week attendance in North America, Disneynature’s initiative “See African Cats, Save the Savannah” has protected 65,000 acres of savannah by helping to establish the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation.

“Our film has been released in many markets, including the United States, France and other European countries, but now, it is the first time we are showing it in the Middle East, and it is with great pleasure that we are doing so in a region for which environment issues are very important,” said Jean-Francois Camilleri, founder and general manager of Disneynature.

Disneynature’s latest film Chimpanzee will be screened as part of Adieff selected films, for the first time in the Mena region too.
