Air-conditioned bus stops by March

DUBAI — The much-awaited air-conditioned bus stops could take three more months to be fully operational, said a senior RTA official.

Engineer Essa Al Dossari, CEO of the Public Transport Agency of the RTA, told Khaleej Times that though the project was nearing completion, they were trying to get permission from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) with regard to the connection of cables which would provide proper air-conditioning.

The official added that they were holding discussions with DEWA and that the first phase could be operational by March.

“The project is on in full swing. But it could take three months to be fully operational and ready for use. The air-conditioning system will not run through the normal electricity wires and requires more power and a separate system. And there needs to be a proper and foolproof cabling work. We are having talks with DEWA in this connection. The cabling work is being carried out in many of the shelters. It could take some more time,” he said.

Dossari added that the second phase of the project would begin immediately once the existing shelters are open for the people.

The second phase aims at converting all the bus stops into air-conditioned ones.
