A Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Air India flight carrying 189 passengers made an emergency landing at the Raipur airport Friday after a fire alarm, the airline said.
According to an Air India spokesperson, flight AI 670 made an emergency landing due to a tail fire.
"There was only tail fire and no fire warning in the cockpit. However, when cabin crew reported fire in the engine , captain discharged the fire extinguisher bottle," the spokesperson said.
A tail fire could be due to damage in the engine blades and incomplete combustion. The spokesperson said that 'a tail fire is not dangerous.'
All 189 passengers are safe and have deplaned. A probe is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
