Ajman Police deploy 24/7 ‘Eid patrols’

The Ajman Police have deployed 25 traffic police patrols to work round the clock in the city to prevent accidents and traffic jams, and curb reckless driving during the Eid holidays.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Shuaib Kajoor, Director of the Ajman Traffic Police, said the patrols have been deployed in crowded areas especially near malls, shopping centres and parks.

He said the traffic police officers will help curb the menace of reckless driving in addition to other traffic violations like driving squad bikes on Ajman roads.

The patrols, he said, were deployed on Tuesday and they will continue their task until the end of the Eid holidays. “Special traffic officers have also been deployed near malls to help pedestrians cross the streets,” he said.

Sharjah’s ‘Eid without accidents’

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Police have reported that 22 serious accidents occurred since the beginning of Ramadan till date, claiming five lives. The Sharjah Police will start a traffic campaign under the slogan “Eid without accidents” aimed at increasing motorists’ and road users’ awareness on the importance of respecting traffic rules to ensure a happy and accident-free Eid.

Colonel Shwaf Abdel Rahman, Director of the Traffic and Anjad patrolling of Sharjah Police, said: “So far we have experienced less serious accidents compared to the same period last year. The idea of the campaign was initiated following the release of accidents statistics that showed that five died and five were critically injured, 11 sustained medium and 12 minor injuries. The corresponding statistics for the last year was 26 serious accidents leading to the death of three, five serious cases, 19 medium injuries and 14 minor injuries.”

Colonel Abdel Rahman noted that the police will deploy more police patrols during the Eid holiday to ensure the safety of road users and that no stunt shows or races are organised by young drivers. He warned that stern action will be taken against reckless drivers.
