A novel initiative - Your Iftar is your suhoor - launched by the Ajman Police to utilise unconsumed or unserved food that might go waste is getting overwhelming response from the people.
Under the initiative, the members of the community police distribute empty boxes to the public to keep their excess food. Each box has a sticker that carries food preservation instructions. The police collect the boxes after excess food is kept inside it. The team meets at Ajman Cooperative Society to distribute the food boxes to the needy families.
More and more people are coming forward and contributing to the initiative by giving the excess food to be redistributed to poor families.
Many charity organisations are also lending a helping hand to the Ajman Police in the initiative.
Major Dr Mohammed Ahmed Hazeem Al Suwaidi, head of community policing at Ajman Police, said the move was aimed at helping needy families. The initiative is about collecting excess food and distribute it to those who need it. If a family cooks a huge quantity of biryani, and much of it is not consumed and remains unserved, it can be saved in the boxes and then given to the needy ones, he explained.
He added that the police have recently launched a number of community initiatives with an aim to bring about an interface between the cops and the community.
Major Al Suwaidi stressed that the Ajman Police will continue to strive to achieve greater relations with the members of the community to enhance security and safety in the emirate.
