A record for the highest number of visitors on a single day was set on Saturday, the second day of Eid, when over 32,000 people visited the sprawling zoo.

Releasing statistics for the three days of Eid celebrations, the zoo authorities attributed the huge rush to the new timings (from 8am to 10pm), significant improvement in the infrastructure, new attractions and a unique day and night experience for visitors.

The longer visiting hours is aimed at giving visitors the opportunity to view the fascinating range of exhibits in their natural environment during both day and night, and followed the successful launch of the Summer Night Zoo that attracted over 110,000 visitors.

Majed Al Mansouri, Managing Director of Al Ain Zoo, said: “With the introduction of more exhibits and facilities, Al Ain Zoo is now in a position to offer the perfect ambience for a good family outing. The overwhelming response during the Eid holidays is ample testimony that the region’s largest zoo has also become the biggest attraction among families.”

Mark Craig, Zoo Director, said: “We are extremely pleased with the large turnout during Eid. By keeping the zoo open for longer hours, we were able to accommodate visitors from a number of nationalities. Last Saturday was memorable for the record turnout.

“It is clear that we are providing a wildlife experience that matches some of the great zoos of the world. With the longer visiting hours and the cooler winter weeks ahead, we expect the turnout to remain high in the coming days.”
