Sharjah’s favourite outdoor leisure destination, Al Majaz Waterfront, is hosting the first ever Superheroes Festival, which features a number of activities, workshops and movie screenings. The festival will conclude today.

For the past two days, visitors to Al Majaz Waterfront have been enjoying hours of fun and excitement alongside their favourite superheroes – such as Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Thor and The Hulk - during the activities hosted as part of the event.

In addition to an action programme, Al Majaz Waterfront has been screening two blockbuster superhero movies each night, and will continue to do such until the festival concludes. Shows start at 6.30pm and 9.30pm every evening, with visitors being treated to films such as Batman Begins, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, Superman Returns, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

Alongside the film screenings, visitors also get the opportunity to attend a series of workshops on comic books. Presented by acclaimed illustrators Marwan Al Khaja, Khaled Hamad, and Mo Abedin. The workshops focus specifically on character creation and comic book art.

Children, too, can enjoy the fun and excitement with four daily performances (6:30pm, 8pm, 9:15pm, and 10:15pm) of the interactive game show ‘Super Mr Potato Head’, which sees who can assemble their own Super Potato Head first, as well as the Superhero LEGO Zone, which has been offering creative youngsters the opportunity to exercise their imaginations by providing a space for them to create their favourite heroes and their own characters, and even design their own superhero cities.

As part of the festival, superhero fans have also been able to pick up the latest comics, books, video games, clothing, medals, phone covers, and sculptures of their favourite characters.

Not only that, they can also indulge in delicious superhero-themed cupcakes, and get a special souvenir from the Digiphoto superhero photo booth.

The Dh120m Al Majaz Waterfront, Shurooq’s debut project, was launched in March 2012, and is situated in Sharjah’s picturesque Khalid Lagoon.

As one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah, it plays host to all major events in the emirate.

Al Majaz Waterfront houses many world-class restaurants and cafes, including: T.G.I Friday’s, Caribou Coffee, Fat Burger, Pizzaro, Baja Fresh, Zahr El- Laymoun, Tim Hortons cafe, Cold Stone, ElManza, a fine dining Moroccan restaurant and Shakespeare and Co. All of these overlook the breathtaking Sharjah Fountain.

In addition, Al Majaz Waterfront offers a Splash Park, Mini Golf, Play Area and “ALWAN”, a unique activity centre exclusively designed for children to spend quality time with their parents or simply to have fun.
