All flights to Beirut from Dubai cancelled

DUBAI — All flights bound to Beirut from Dubai International Airport were cancelled yesterday until further notice, a source from the airport said. The disruption in the air traffic between Dubai and the Lebanese capital came as a result to the closure of Beirut International Airport because of the opposition protests.

The protests were accompanied by clashes between pro-government forces and the opposition.

Hezbollah and its anti-government allies yesterday blocked the roads leading to the Beirut International Airport for the second day in a row.

Etihad Airlines flight from Abu Dhabi to Beirut was also cancelled yesterday because of the Rafic Hariri International Airport’s closure.

Meanwhile, Lebanese expatriates in Dubai were very worried about their loved ones back home. “I fear a shortage of goods, medicines and other essentials,” said Ghassan, a Lebanese based in Dubai.

Maria, another expatriate, too had concerns over a potential civil war as “the tension has gone beyond limits”. Rola, an expat, urged her parents in Lebanon to start storing food and other important commodities.
