An elderly woman was rescued by firefighters Thursday after being stuck in her loft for four days, where she had climbed to check on a draught.

The woman slipped and fell while in the loft of her home at Geelong, an hour south of Melbourne, and was only found when a friend called by, worried because she was not answering her phone.

“The woman is believed to be about 70 years old and had gone up into the roof to check where a draught was coming from before she slipped and fell and got stuck,” said the Victorian fire authority.

“Firefighters and rescue teams cut a hole in the roof and lifted her down into the house on a spineboard using roping gear.”

The woman was taken to Geelong hospital, reportedly to be treated for dehydration and an arm injury.
