The programme is organised under the sponsorship of Lieutenant-General Mohammed Khamis Al Junabi, Deputy Commander of Abu Dhabi Police and in collaboration with UAE Transport Authority.
The lectures dubbed "Back to School, Back to Safety" are part of the ongoing School Transportation Week which are meant to create awareness among drivers about traffic laws and their responsibility during transportation of students.
Lt Ahmed Gareeb Al Mansouri, Director of Guidance and Public Relations, delivered a lecture on the "Ideal behaviour of Drivers" in which he explored some of the values embodied in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah which encourage proper behaviour, as well as values contained in the Arab culture and tradition. He called upon drivers to embrace the values of tolerance, respect for traffic regulations and wise behaviour while driving school vehicles, so as to guarantee the safety of the students. He also spoke on the obligations of drivers while on duty, with regard to the roads and the students, pedestrians and other vehicles.
On his part, Lt Juma Mohammed Al Hosani, director of Traffic Violations at the Traffic Department, held forth on the rules of safe driving in which he spoke about Safe Driving and the guidelines to be followed by vehicle drivers in the context of speed limits, non-violation of traffic light signals, and other necessary driving instructions.
Lt Al Hosani directed the attention of drivers to watch out for accidents that may occur when students are alighting from vehicles and boarding them in addition to other precautions which drivers should follow such as having spare wheels and fire extinguishers.
