Bait Al Khair to spend Dh95 million on charity programmes this Ramadan

Dubai: The Bait Al Khair Society is to spend Dh95 million over charity programmes in the Holy month of Ramadan this year.

 The budget, the biggest ever in its 36 history, is Dh11 million more than the Dh84 million spent in Ramadan last year.

 Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, General Manager, Beit Al Khair Society, on Monday morning said the campaign themed ‘Be of good doers’, is expected to bring happiness to some 23,000 poor and low-income families.

 “Beit Al Khair is all set with the biggest ever extensive advertisement and media campaign that charity boxes and staff representatives will cover all areas and regions of the UAE.”

 The Society has decided on 120 external locations for collecting donation this Ramadan at different malls, shopping centers, institutions, hospitals, ministries, government departments which are in direct contact with the public, he added.

 “These are added to around 5,000 permanent charity collecting machines distributed at the different shops, pharmacies, supermarkets and others.”

 Halima Abdullah Al Dhanhani, head of the campaign organising committee, said the functions of the Ramadan campaign include Zakat, seasonal and continuous charities, Ramadan foodstuff packages, Zakat Al Fitr and Eid clothing.

 “These are apart from the regular projects targeting low-income families, orphans, debtors, patients, aged individuals of special needs and urgent cases, let alone the ‘Showing gratitude’ project launched this year with Dar Al Ber Society to provide proper accommodation to poor nationals.”

 Noting, she said the Bait Al Khair Society has adopted a precise and transparent auditing and financial system since its inception in 1989.

 “The Society has so far spent Dh1.4 billion on charity projects based on accurate social researches by competent researchers well-aware of the conditions of Emirati families.”

 Meanwhile, the Beit Al Khair Society has spent Dh31,343,000 on 17,435 poor and low-income families, students, orphans, special needs people, seniors, inmates’ families, and patients in the first three months of the year.

 “Each and every family of these was given an average of Dh1,798 every month via 11 different charity projects,” Awadhi said.

 Elaborating, he said they spent over Dh13 million on fixed monthly aids, along with over Dh2.2 million against food and in-kind assistance, and Dh2.8 million for the benefit of orphans.

 “Beit Al Khair has also provided Dh150,000 for low-income Emirati families listed under the ‘Showing gratitude’ project jointly launched with the Dar Al Ber Society to help local families staying in other emirates join their families.”
