Tickets that were originally priced at Rs 2,500 are being resold for as much as Rs 300,000
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Robert D’Sa, Managing Partner of Caesar’s Bakery, said: "Everyone knows that prices of almost all commodities have increased lately. The cost of labour has also gone up while prices of raw material including flour, butter and sugar have increased by 15 per cent."
D’Sa said that in order to maintain quality, someone had to bear the costs.
"I am sure that good customers will appreciate paying a little more to get quality," he said, adding that prices of bakery items selling in big volumes will be maintained.
While increase in price of bread is bound to increase soon, confectionary items such as cakes, biscuits and other items might be spared. "Prices of cakes and pastries might not be increased much as compared to bread," said Basil Dias, the General Manager of Mister Baker.
He said Mister Baker would not be increasing the prices of its products till January since they were observing whether the price increase would affect them drastically. "We are waiting and watching the market trend and calculating whether the increase in raw material prices would affect us because we are not supplying bakery products to the market daily," he explained.
A representative of Al Jadeed Bakery also said that adjustments in prices of certain items would be made soon.
"We are expecting an increase within the coming 30 days," he added.
Customers are of the opinion that the increase in prices of the items sold at the various bakeries in different parts of the city would not come as a great shock. And they almost seem to be prepared for paying more to satisfy their palates
"We as customers are at the receiving end of all things. In all cases, traders justify themselves by saying that due to increase in prices of related goods, we too have to balance our prices," said a customer. "But whom do we turn to when we need to juggle our finances to balance our budget," he asked.
