The consulate ended its contract with the courier company earlier this month following the non-delivery of over 20,000 cards and planned to distribute the cards at the consulate itself. The courier company claimed the cards were pending with them due to the failure on part of Nadra (National Database and Registration Authority) to provide them with proper contact addresses of the applicants.

“After being in touch with Nadra in Pakistan, the barcoding has been completed at the consulate and we have started distribution of the cards at the consulate premises,” said Imran Mirza, Head of Chancery at the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai. This delivery will end the backlog of cards which has been pending for a long time and hopefully facilitate the community members.

Recently the consulate has upgraded its facilities and installed new, hi-tech machines for registering Nicop and Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) applicants in the UAE. The centre is equipped with a computer system that is linked with Nadra’s system in Islamabad. Though the cards will be made in Islamabad, all entries will be done locally.

The data will be sent to Islamabad through the computer system. The system aims at saving time, issuing cards at the earliest and leaving no margin for errors. All data is entered by trained staff to make it error free.
