Sunday’s Immaculate Sunset and Thursday’s Moon Flower Party have been cancelled to make room for some new themed parties. Already in place, there is a Ladies Night every Thursday from 4pm till late. From 8pm onwards, ladies receive complimentary drinks throughout the evening, while guys will have to pay Dh50 entry, which include two house beverages.
Last but not least, Puesta Del Sol is bound to turn on the heat every Sunday afternoon. From 4pm to 7pm enjoy traditional Flamenco performances, dancers and a Spanish guitarist. After dark, from 7pm, resident DJ Melohman will take to the decks with a mix of Latin, house, Brazilian, funk, Nu Jazz and soulful beats. Award-winning chef Mathew Goodlet will host a live cooking demo of classic Spanish Paella each week. Paella and Sangria package are Dh99 per person.
Zoo safaris will once again return to Al Ain Zoo this spring to offer children an exciting and educational experience. Organised by the Education Centre, the Spring Safaris allow children to explore and learn about wildlife and nature in the inspiring setting of Al Ain Zoo. The first Spring Safari session will take place from March 31 to April 4, and the second from April 7-11.
“The Zoo Safari programmes teach youngsters about wildlife and nature, encouraging their involvement in the global causes of protection and conservation. The success witnessed in these programmes over the past two years reflects their genuine enthusiasm for such causes,” said Mona Al Dhaheri, acting chief conservation and education officer at Al Ain Zoo.
The Al Ain Zoo Spring Safaris are open to 40 children, age seven to 12-year old. Each camp will run for five days from 8am to 1pm and it will cost Dh250 per child, which includes all activities in addition to refreshments, a snack and a goodie bag. The concert has been sold out a couple of months ago and will stand by tickets at the door will be available, but it is worth a try! Plácido Domingo, live at Emirates Palace, is bound to be Abu Dhabi Festival’s most famous concert yet! The legendary opera singer and Unesco Goodwill Ambassador will perform here on March 20.
Conducted by long-time collaborator Eugene Kohn, Domingo is accompanied by the Czech Philharmonic and soprano Ana María Martínez, returning to the festival after her acclaimed performance in the 2010 Puccini Festival Opera production, La Bohème.
For over a century, the Czech Philharmonic has represented the pinnacle of Czech cultural achievement. In 1896, Dvořák conducted its debut and in 1908, Mahler led the orchestra in the world premiere of his Symphony No.7. Today, the Czech Philharmonic performs far and wide including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie in Berlin and London’s Royal Festival Hall. Festival appearances include the BBC Proms, Berliner Festspiele, Lucerne Festival and Salzburger Festspiele.
With Spain as its Country of Honour, Abu Dhabi Festival 2013 welcomes the remarkable artist Plácido Domingo to the UAE capital as the centrepiece of its 10th anniversary celebration.
