DUBAI — Volunteers from various segments of the society took part in cleaning up operations as part of the ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign organised by Dubai Municipality in the city on Thursday.
Students joined hands with labourers in cleaning up the Al Hamriya fishing harbour, while 13 divers from Dubai Police, Coast Guards and Emirates Marine Environment Group joined more than 40 volunteers from private companies in picking up waste from the Creek bed near Dubai Municipality headquarters. Staff from DP World and students of Sharjah University undertook a voluntary clean-up in the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary.
Meanwhile, in a bid to educate the younger generation of the need to preserve the environment, some 1,000 specially-designed litter bins were delivered to 65 schools in Dubai on Wednesday.
“This initiative is aimed at conveying to the students that their small actions of safely disposing the litter can make a big difference to the environment we live in,” said Hassan Makki, head of the campaign team.
