A senior official last week said the ‘Give (to charity) for your own good’ campaign achieved its objectives, spending almost the expected figure set for its Ramadan expenditure.

Juma Al Majid, Chairman of the Beit Al Khair Society, said the drive marks a new start for the society along its 25-year-old history.

“We spent Dh84.4 million, 65 per cent of which was Zakat money, benefiting more than 100,000 families and cases; 5,500 of which were families that receive fixed monthly assistance.” The society has distributed Ramadan Meer or packages, cash assistance, in-kind and food aids, and urgent aids to a large number of the needy people, he added.

Official statistics show that the Zakat money distributed by the society this Ramadan amounts to Dh55 million, contributing 65 per cent of the total expenditure in the holy month.
