In a competition that was sponsored by Tejari.com, the winners were felicitated by Chief Executive Officer of Tejari, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Acting Director-General of Dubai Customs Fadhel Al Mazrouei, the organising committee of Heritage Surprises and a number of other senior officials from the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Tejari. The first prize was awarded to Jassim Obaid Al Jassim for his domain at UAEheritage.com; second prize went to Mohsin Abdul Sattar for muhsinsworld.com/heritage; the third went to Abdullah Garweesh for torathi.com; and the subsequent two positions were claimed by Ibrahim Mohammed and Badr Saleh.

Speaking at the occasion Shaikha Lubna said: "Though the UAE is developing day by day, it still has a rich cultural heritage. We at Tejari believe in mobilising the use of Internet, especially when we have the required talent." She also said that the selected web sites were good in presentation, were balanced with good photography and were also very critical in terms of content.

Addressing the Press, Omar Ibrahim bin Hendi, member of the organising committee for Heritage Surprises, said: "This competition was held to revive the heritage of the UAE in the electronic way." Giving details he said that the best five web sites - one English and four Arabic - were selected very precisely and carefully. "The web sites have been chosen on the basis of content, design and language," he said. Mr Hendi also said that it has been decided that the two best web sites - Arabic and the English - be combined to give a wider choice of knowledge to the audience. Speaking to Khaleej Times, the winner of the only English web site, 17-year-old Mohsin Abdul Sattar, said that it took him only three days to build his site. "I focussed totally on the photos, colour scheme and an easy, readable layout," he said.
