Islamabad: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has thwarted several bids to smuggle drugs during 11 countrywide operations and seized 132.6kg of illicit substances worth Rs686 million in international market.
According to Press statement issued on Sunday, the seized drugs included 92kg of heroin and 40.6kg of charas. The ANF also detained 16 persons, including 2 women, involved in drug trafficking, while impounded three vehicles. Most of the seized drugs was intended to be dispatched at foreign destinations.
A team of ANF Karachi searched a shipment containing water dispensers at the International Container Terminal, Port Qasim, Karachi and recovered 86kg of heroin concealed inside 43 water dispensers. Three persons suspected to be involved in the crime were also taken into custody.
An ANF Rawalpindi Airport team conducted an operation at the car parking area of the Benazir Bhutto Airport, Islamabad, and detained a passenger named Mohammed Zulqarnain, resident of Faisalabad. Detailed search of his luggage resulted in recovery of 6kg heroin.
During a routine checking near Varan Bus Stand, Adam Jee Road, Rawalpindi Cantt, the ANF staff stopped a car and recovered 3kg of charas. Two individuals named Jibran Masih and Oom Parkash, both residents of Rawalpindi, were taken into custody in this regard.
On a tip-off, an ANF team seized a pickup at Fatehjang Motorway Interchange, Tehsil Fatehjang, Attock and recovered 7kgs of charas from the vehicle. According to information, drug was being supplied to nearby areas for local consumption. Vehicle driver Sajid Khan, resident of Khyber Agency, was arrested in this connection.
Another ANF team intercepted a van near Ghousia Bus Stand, Pirwadhai More, G.T. Road Rawalpindi and recovered 7kgs of charas concealed in it. Four accused - Noor Ahmed, Inamul Haq, Wahid Mohammed and Jalal - were apprehended during the operation. As per preliminary investigations, charas was transported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was to be delivered to drug peddlers at Rawalpindi.
The ANF Rawalpindi team seized a consignment comprising small tables at Al Zohaib Cargo office on Airport Road in Rawalpindi and recovered 250 grams of heroin concealed inside the consignment. The consignment was booked by Mohammed Afzal, a resident of Gujrat and was intended to be received by Haider Ali in England.
An ANF team in Lahore intercepted a consignment consisting of two cartons at an office of a courier company and recovered heroin concealed inside the coating of the catalogues.
An ANF team raided a bus stop near PSO petrol pump, Gujranwala Road, Daska, Sialkot and arrested a drug supplier along with 4kg of charas concealed in his luggage.
On a tip-off, an ANF team in Peshawar arrested two female drug carriers namely Kausar and Anie and recovered 14.4kg of charas from their possession.
The ANF team during a search of a passenger van near Kacha Pakka, Kohat, arrested Said Janan, a resident of Khyber Agency, after the recovery of 8.4kg of charas.
