An enquiry delegation of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) concluded its four-day tour to the UAE to assess the preparations of Dubai City, which is competing to host World Expo 2020.
The delegation members expressed their admiration and appreciation of the potential, capabilities, sophisticated infrastructure and high efficiency, which collectively represent strong elements to support the file submitted by the UAE to host World Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation, President of the Higher National Committee to host the World Expo 2020, thanked during a press conference held at the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai on the last day of the delegation’s visit, the BIE inspection members for their time and effort during the visit, as well as the understanding they have shown towards the UAE’s great efforts to host the exhibition.
He noted that Dubai has a potential to host the largest and most successful Expo in history.
Shaikh Ahmed said the study prepared by Oxford Centre for Economic Studies has projected that Dubai can earn over Dh139 billion and create 277, 000 job opportunities from 2013- 2021 if it wins the bid to host Expo 2020.
Steen Christiansen, Chairman of the BIE Executive Committee thanked the UAE government and people for cordial hospitality.
The Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is the international body responsible for overseeing the calendar, bidding, selection and organisation of World Expos. Through its 161 member states it embodies a global commitment to engage the public in promoting innovation in the service of human progress.
The BIE was created by an international convention signed in 1928, which established the rights and responsibilities of the Expo organisers and participants. Its role is to supervise and ensure the application of this convention.
