A living room today is incomplete without a nice TV, especially if you are a passionate movie and sports fan.
Shoppers arriving for the final days of the Gitex Shopper 2018 exhibition over the weekend seemed to be of the same mind, with many making their way to the TV sections.
Patrick Desrey, a Dubai resident who lives in JLT, said that he was looking for a new smart TV for his apartment. "I and my mates love everything that is sports. A great weekend for us is getting together with lots of food and a big TV to watch football. You will probably also catch us calling in sick at work if there is a big game going on."
Desrey said that he was looking for a 65 inch smart TV that he would mount on the wall in front of the sofa. "If you can't get to the game, then bring the game to you in HD."
Similarly, Jenny Roy, another shopper at the event, said that her family was looking for a new TV. "We don't want anything bigger than the one we have at home right now. My kids love watching movies over the weekend, so we are just looking for something that has better picture quality."
Atul Joshi, head of distribution and official spokesperson for Jumbo Electronics, said that TVs were always a popular item at Gitex Shopper. Since that is an expensive item, many shoppers often wait for the event to purchase one because they knew that they could get a good deal, as well as have a large variety of brands to choose from.
Asked why shoppers would be interested in upgrading their TVs, he said: "Just go out and look at the beauty of the 85 inch TV that Sony has put out and then try to tell yourself that you don't want to take it home. The resolution that is offered by TVs today just keeps getting better year after year and it is just a joy to watch. A TV is an integral part of your home, and something that you watch almost every day. In addition, lots of people have got Netflix so there is something for the whole family to watch and enjoy. The action that you will see on your screen is clearer, sharper and brighter."
