The officials added that the land for the new Dubai Zoo, which will be bigger and better equipped than the existing one, will be provided by Dubailand while the municipality will be responsible for the planning and construction work, expected to kick off this year.

“We are planning to make the zoo one of the best in the world. And for this we need to know about other zoos in the world as well. We have contacted popular zoos around the world and are getting some valuable feedback from them. The planning has to be done in a perfect way so that the new Dubai zoo outstands the others,” said Essa Al Maidour, Assistant Director of the General Projects Department.

He added that animals from the Jumeirah zoo will be shifted to the new zoo. “We plan to bring new animals too, although a final decision in this connection has not been taken yet. We will also be introducing several new facilities for the animals.”

The new zoo promises a host of fun activities for children. “Apart from the full information on the animals, they will come to know about many new things about the animals,” added the senior official.

Municipality officials said no decision had been taken yet on how to make use of the old zoo, home to 1,500 animals at present. The entire project is expected to be completed in the next two years. “There has been a delay in the project. But then the outcome will be worth waiting for,” promised the official.
