DUBAI — The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Dubai Municipality (DM) and Directorate General of Residency and Foreign Affairs (DGRFA) bagged top honours at the 13th edition of Dubai Government Excellence Programme, the emirate’s annual civic awards.
However, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) went away with the highest number of awards this year, winning eleven individual and team honours.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who established the programmed in 1997 — graced the ceremony by his presence and honoured the winners personally along with Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
Shaikh Mohammed congratulated the winners, saying that “what they have attained is accomplishment to their institutions and community, adding that the UAE has resolved to build cultured creative personalities capable of bringing change and contributing to nation building”.
He added, “The excellence and innovation culture should prevail in our community and individuals, citing the efforts of DGEP teams who picked up fruits of their work.”
Shaikh Hamdan, who announced the top three winners, said the Dubai Chamber, DM and DGRFA represent the best of administrative excellence and reached a customer satisfaction level of 83 per cent, which is on par with international standards. He also announced that from next year the current nomination system will be done away with and new electronic of self-assessment will be established.
The top individual honours of the year, Distinguished Government Employee, were shared by Yehya Abdullah Al Zafin of DEWA, and Dr. Khalid Al Zahid of the RTA. By keeping both the customers and employees happy with a satisfaction percentage of 88.7 and 77.1 respectively, the Dubai Chamber won the nod of the government, bagging three top honours of Distinguished Government Agency Award, Best Result in Customer Satisfaction Award and Best Result in Employee Satisfaction Award.
Dubai Police was named the year’s Distinguished Government Authority/Department. Apart from the individual award of top government employee, RTA’s 10 other honours included: the Distinguished Government Team Award for the 09/09/09 Metro Team, Distinguished e-Govt. Entity, Best Government Entity in Performance Improvement, Distinguished New Employee won by Sarah Ishaq Al Awadhi, Distinguished Technical Employee for Dr Othman Abdulrahman, and Distinguished Administrative Employee fetched by Eng.
