The body of a Filipina maid who appears to have been tortured to death was discovered in a freezer in a locked flat in Kuwait. It is suspected that the tenants of the flat, a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife, who vacated the premises nearly one year prior, had killed the maid and left her in the freezer.
The flat's owner had come with a court order to forcibly evict the tenants who had not paid rent for the year's interim. The rental agreement was made in the wife's name.
According to masrawy.com which cited the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai, after sending the corpse for an autopsy, they discovered that she had been a maid sponsored by the Lebanese man. He had filed an absentee report regarding the maid just two days prior to them fleeing the country.
The discovery of the crime coincided with a statement issued by the Philippines suspending its workers from serving in Kuwait because of a string of domestic abuse taking place leading to a number of suicide cases.
The man is wanted for several cases including issuing dud cheques, and he is slated to serve a jail term of 14 days
The Philippines Ambassador to Kuwait, Renato Pedro O. Villa, stated that the embassy launched an investigation into the incident immediately after being made aware of the situation.
The examination had not yet confirmed if the maid was of Filipino descent.
Interpol will be notified of the Lebanese man and his wife and a Red Notice will be placed for the arrest of the duo who are accused of killing the maid.
