Two Pakistani journalists based in the UAE are currently conducting interviews with achievers from an array of professional backgrounds for their upcoming book that is meant to pay tribute and highlight the achievements of Pakistani nationals who have struggled to make it to the top.
The selection has been done through a committee comprising prominent Pakistanis, say the writers of the book. "Making the selection was an extremely tough decision since there are a huge number of Pakistanis based in the UAE, and many of them include those whose services should be lauded," explained Tahir Munir, UAE bureau chief of Urdu Daily Nawi-e-Waqt who is currently working on the book.
At least half of the work on the book titled Top 100 Pakistan achievers in the UAE has been completed. The 300-page book in Urdu is expected to hit the market in October with the English version slated for release at a later date.
"The idea had been brewing for a long time since we know of several people who had come to the UAE with nothing but made a name for themselves," said Mohammed Pervaiz, a local journalist, also working on the book.
Among the likes of people to be included are top businessman Haji Abdul Razzak (ARY) and media guru Dr Shahid Masood besides several other prominent people from the fields of politics, education, sports, journalism, doctors, business, social work as well as poets and writers. Five women have also made it to the top 100.
"We prefer not to give out any names yet as it may influence our selection," says Munir.
The duo is also working on a book highlighting the eight years in exile of slain Pakistan leader Benazir Bhutto.
"We hope to bring out the details about her that have not been known to the public until now," they said.
